About this item
The Dormakaba C540 LCC is the privacy function (ANSI F76): both levers operate the latch freely in the normal state, the inside push button locks the outside lever when privacy is needed, and three separate actions release the outside lever back to free operation. When the inside occupant turns the inside lever to exit, the outside lever releases. When the door closes, the push button releases automatically, restoring normal operation without anyone touching the button again. From outside, a thin tool or coin in the emergency slot releases the button if the occupant needs assistance.
The C540 is the privacy function in the Dormakaba C500 Series Grade 2 cylindrical lever set family, the LCC lever style, 626 Satin Chrome finish, non-handed, 2-3/4" backset, and ANSI/BHMA A156.2 Series 4000 Grade 2 certified. ANSI F76 Privacy Function: All Four Operating States
State one, normal (button out): Both inside and outside levers operate the latch freely. Anyone can enter from either side without a key.
State two, locked (button in): Outside lever is rigid. Entry from outside is not possible by lever. Inside lever remains free: turning it retracts the latch for exit. When the inside lever turns for egress, the push button releases and the door returns to state one.
State three, door closes: When the door closes, the push button releases automatically. The outside lever returns to free operation without any manual reset. No one inside needs to unlock the door before leaving; the door resets itself.
State four, emergency release: A standard coin, flat tool, or manufacturer-supplied emergency key inserted into the outside slot and rotated releases the push button from outside. Used for child safety, medical emergencies, or any situation where the occupant needs assistance.

LCC vs. LRC Lever Style
The Dormakaba C500 Series is available in two lever styles for most functions. LCC is one lever profile; LRC is the alternate design. Both use the same C500 lockcase, the same Grade 2 certification, and the same ANSI F76 privacy function. The C540 LRC is the LRC lever version of this same product. Choose based on the lever aesthetic that matches other hardware in the space, or select LCC if no specific preference is required.
C500 Series Function Range
The C540 is one of six functions in the C500 Series. The C501 (Dummy) provides a non-functional pull handle. The C510 (Passage) allows free operation from both sides with no lock function. The C540 (this product, Privacy) locks outside by push button with emergency release. The C553 (Entry/Office) has a push button that requires key release. The C570 (Classroom) is key-controlled from the corridor. The C580 (Storeroom) locks outside permanently with key-only entry. All six use the same lever styles and finishes, making it easy to specify multiple functions across a residential or light commercial space with consistent appearance.
