About this item
That's what the Falcon 571 does. It mounts on the inactive leaf and provides a machined strike surface with the correct lip geometry for the active leaf's exit device latch bolt to engage cleanly when the active door closes. Maintains 2-5/16" backset between the door faces. Without this strike, the active leaf either doesn't latch reliably or damages the inactive leaf edge over time. Active Leaf vs. Inactive Leaf: How Double Door Pairs Work
On a pair of doors, the inactive leaf is the door that stays latched most of the time. It typically has flush bolts at the top and bottom that engage the floor and header, holding it in a fixed position. The active leaf is the door that opens and closes regularly. It has the exit device (panic bar) and is the one people actually use for egress.
When the access configuration doesn't include a removable mullion (the vertical post between the two doors that can be temporarily removed for wider clearance), the two leaves meet each other in the center. The active leaf's latch bolt closes against the edge of the inactive leaf. Without a proper strike installed on that edge, the latch bolt has no correct engagement surface. The 571 creates that surface.

571 vs. STK45: Two Double Door Strike Options
Both the Falcon 571 and the STK45 are double door strikes for pairs of doors. Confirm which exit device series is installed on the active leaf before selecting between them. If the active leaf has a Falcon 24 or 25 Series device, the 571 is the correct specification.
The "571x2" Note
Some installations require two 571 strikes rather than one. On a pair of doors where the active leaf latch engages at two points (certain multi-point latch configurations or where the device has both a top latch and a bottom rod), two 571 strikes may be needed at different heights on the inactive leaf edge. Check the exit device installation instructions for the specific latch engagement points before ordering a single quantity.
