About this item
The Falcon 9970 is the universal pull-only outside trim from Falcon's exit device trim lineup. Pull-only means exactly that: it's a bar you grip and pull from outside. There's no lever, no cylinder, and no key function. When the exit device is dogged in the held-open position, or when outside entry control isn't needed at that specific door, the 9970 is the outside trim that gives people approaching from the corridor something to pull on. The "can be used with all devices" designation is important: unlike the 712, 912, and other Falcon series trims that are engineered for specific Falcon exit device families, the 9970 is a universal mounting pull trim that works across Falcon's full exit device range and a wide range of other manufacturers' exit devices.
It comes in four anodized aluminum finishes that match the most common commercial aluminum storefront and hollow metal frame color families: standard aluminum, dark bronze, black anodized, and satin chrome. The satin chrome finish carries a premium over the others. For all commercial exit hardware, browse our exit hardware catalog.

Understanding the Three Dimensions
Three numbers on a pull trim tell you what you need to know about fit and feel. Center to center (9-1/4") is the distance between the two mounting bolt holes at the top and bottom of the pull. This measurement determines whether the pull mounts cleanly on the exit device or door stile without interfering with the device body or adjacent hardware. Projection (2-7/8") is how far the bar extends from the door face. Higher projection means a larger grip that's easier to grab with gloves or when approaching quickly. Clearance (1-3/4") is the gap between the door face and the underside of the pull bar. Clearance of 1-3/4" is ADA-relevant: the ADAAG requires 1-1/2" minimum clearance for accessible pulls, and the 9970 meets that requirement.
Pull-Only vs. Lever Trim: Which to Specify
If the exit device door needs outside key-controlled entry, a lever trim (NL, entry, storeroom, or classroom function) is the correct specification. If the door needs access control but the mechanism is an electric strike or EL (electric latch retraction), a lever trim can be specified without a cylinder since the electric device controls outside access.
If outside entry control isn't needed at all, or if access is managed through a separate adjacent door with the exit device door serving as egress only, the 9970 pull-only trim is the simplest and most cost-effective outside trim specification. Pull trims also work well for the non-active leaf of a paired door where the active leaf carries all access control hardware.
