The Falcon C992 is an SFIC mortise housing, not a cylinder. The distinction is important when ordering. A conventional mortise cylinder contains a complete keying mechanism: pins, springs, a keyway plug, and a fixed key cut pattern. The C992 contains none of that. It's the outer shell that a Small Format Interchangeable Core (SFIC) drops into. The IC core holds all the keying elements and can be removed and replaced using a control key, without taking the housing out of the lock body or the lock body out of the door. The C992 is the correct component for a Falcon mortise lock prep that needs to accept BEST-compatible SFIC cores.

The "2"" in C992 is the housing length: 2 inches. Standard SFIC mortise housings are typically 1-1/4" or 1-3/8". The 2" length is for Falcon mortise lock bodies and prep configurations that require the longer housing reach to interface correctly with the internal mechanism. Order the wrong length and the housing either won't seat properly or the cam won't engage the lock's actuating mechanism. SFIC and IC Core: What They Mean for Facilities
