About this item
The Jackson CRL 31-1095P is the paddle rim panic exit device in CRL Jackson's 10 Series, built specifically for aluminum storefront glass doors in narrow, medium, and wide stile configurations. It also installs on wood and hollow metal doors of the same stile widths. The paddle design is the defining characteristic: instead of a full-width crossbar or touch bar that runs the width of the door, the paddle is a compact push-operated bar centered on the door face with "PUSH" engraved directly on it. The engraved text satisfies ADA and building code directional signage requirements and makes the function immediately clear to building occupants approaching from outside.
The CRL/Jackson 10 Series is widely recognized as the standard for aluminum storefront exit hardware because it was designed for that application from the start. The aluminum body and arms are high tensile strength alloy. Mechanical components are stainless and hardened plated steel. Latch and strikes are sintered steel. Wear points are insulated by nylon sleeves and rollers, which prevents the metal-on-metal contact that creates noise and wear in high-cycle storefront applications. Concealed fastening provides a cleaner installation and prevents the screws from being accessed from the outside. For all commercial exit hardware, browse our exit hardware catalog.
Dual Dogging: Cylinder and Pin
The 31-1095P has a dual dogging feature that sets it apart from basic paddle exit devices. Standard single-dog devices can only be held in the dogged position one way: typically a hex key on the inside dogging pins. The 31-1095P dogs from two sources.
The outside cylinder dogs the device when a cylinder is installed (cylinder required separately). A facility manager with a key can hold the door in dogged/open mode from the corridor without going inside. This is the correct operation for a retail storefront entrance during business hours: the manager arrives, inserts their key from outside, dogs the device, and the door operates as a normal push-pull glass door for customers throughout the day.
The inside dogging pins on the panic housing provide the second dogging method for inside operation. Either method holds the latch in the retracted position for free-passage periods.
Key Entry and Cylinder Requirements
The 31-1095P requires a rim cylinder for keyed outside entry. The cylinder is not included with the device. A cylinder mounting pad is not required, which simplifies the installation on aluminum storefront frames where a mounting pad would add depth and alignment complexity. Specify and order the rim cylinder separately to match your master key system or keyway.

Paddle vs. Crossbar Exit Devices: Storefront vs. Commercial Interiors
On hollow metal commercial interior doors in office buildings and institutions, crossbar and touch bar exit devices (Von Duprin, Falcon, Corbin Russwin, Dormakaba) are the standard specification. These devices span the full width of the door and are designed for hollow metal and wood door construction.
On aluminum storefront glass doors, the paddle device is the correct specification. Storefront aluminum frames use narrow stile construction with minimal surface area for hardware. The Jackson CRL paddle fits the stile geometry of aluminum storefront frames and integrates with the aesthetic of glass storefront construction. The 31-1095P was designed for this application. Standard crossbar devices were not.
Jackson Electrified Exit Hardware
If your project requires electrified latch retraction or delayed egress on a storefront aluminum door, CRL Jackson manufactures electrified versions of the 10 Series paddle exit device for access control integration. The 31-1095P is the standard mechanical version.
