About this item
The PDQ 6S09 is the storeroom function lever trim for PDQ's 6300 and 6400 Series exit devices. If you searched "6300c"-the 6300 is the PDQ wide stile rim exit device platform, and the C suffix in distributor catalogs often refers to the cylinder or specific configuration of the 6300 device. The 6S09 is the outside trim that pairs with that device to create a complete storeroom function opening: exit device on the inside, keyed lever on the outside, storeroom operation from both sides.
ANSI F09 Storeroom Function: How It Works at the Door
ANSI Function 09 is the storeroom lever trim function. From outside, the lever operates the latch only when unlocked by key. The key is removable only when the lever is in the locked position. From inside, the exit device push bar always allows immediate egress-the inside is never locked, regardless of how the outside is configured.
That key removable only when locked detail is the operational spec most people miss. It means you cannot take the key out of the cylinder while the lever is unlocked. The cylinder is designed so the key stays engaged until you turn it back to the locked position. This prevents the outside from being accidentally left unlocked after someone enters-the key won't come out unless the door is locked again.
This is the correct trim for server rooms, utility closets, storage areas, and any room where outside access must be key-controlled at all times but the person inside always needs to get out.
6S vs 6W vs 6N: Which Trim Series This Is
PDQ offers three escutcheon styles for the 6300/6400 Series. The 6S is rose/sectional trim-a smaller rose plate that mounts behind the lever cylinder, giving a cleaner, less visually prominent look. The 6W is wide stile escutcheon-a tall, narrow plate that covers more of the door stile, used on hollow metal or wide stile aluminum doors where the escutcheon provides structural backing. The 6N is narrow escutcheon-for narrow stile doors or applications where a sleeker profile is preferred.
The 6S09 is rose trim, which works well on wood doors and hollow metal doors where the door prep provides adequate structural support without needing the wider plate. If your door or application requires the wider coverage, specify the 6W09 instead.
6300 vs 6400 Device Compatibility
The 6S09 trim is compatible with both the 6300 and 6400 Series exit devices from PDQ. The 6300 is the rim exit device with 3/4-inch pullman latch-it mounts on the door face and latches into a strike on the frame. The 6400 is the surface vertical rod version with top and bottom latching. The same outside trim platform serves both, which simplifies hardware scheduling when a project has mixed device types across different door configurations.
Lever Styles and Finishes
The 6S09 is available in PDQ's standard lever designs: Philadelphia (PHL), Boston, Miami, Orlando, Chicago, and Los Angeles. Seven finishes are available including 626 satin chrome, 630 satin stainless steel, 625 bright chrome, 613 oil rubbed bronze, and others. ADA compliant per ICC/ANSI 117.1. All levers return to within 1/2 inch of the door face for ADA lever clearance compliance.
