The MD8610-F carries ANSI/BHMA A156.3 Grade 1 certification, UL listing for Panic Exit Hardware, UL listing for Fire Exit Hardware, and Windstorm Rating. That combination makes it the correct specification for coastal and hurricane-zone jurisdictions where exit hardware must meet impact and pressure resistance requirements beyond standard panic certification, and for any project where the hardware schedule requires a single device rated for both panic and fire-rated openings.

Door Requirements and Stile Compatibility
The MD8610 is designed for hollow metal doors only. Minimum door thickness is 1-3/4 inches (44mm). For doors between 1-3/4 and 2-1/4 inches thick, specify at order using the 31- prefix. Minimum stile width with trim is 4-1/2 inches (114mm). Without outside trim, the minimum stile drops to 3-1/2 inches (44mm). For wood doors, specify the WD8610. For aluminum storefront, specify the AD8613. The MD8610 is metal door only.
Rail Size F: 36-Inch Door Coverage
The F suffix designates the 36-inch rail, covering door widths from 33 to 36 inches. No field cutting is required for a 36-inch door. Other rail sizes in the MD8610 series: Size E for 24 to 32 inch doors, Size J for 37 to 42 inch doors, and Size G for 43 to 48 inch doors.
Function, Dogging, and Strikes
The MD8610-F ships as Function 10, Exit Only, ANSI Function F01. Both the top and bottom latching points release from a single pushpad depression. There is no outside trim and no outside entry capability. Both levers are exit-only, making this the correct choice for stairwell exits, perimeter egress doors, and any opening where exit control without entry access is the requirement.
Hex key dogging is standard on the non-fire rated configuration, allowing the pushpad to be held depressed for continuous push-pull traffic during building hours. Fire-rated configurations (12- prefix) do not allow dogging per code. For cylinder-keyed dogging, the 16-MD8610 ships with a Sargent 41 mortise cylinder included.
The 650 Top Strike is furnished standard, stainless steel with nylon coating for hollow metal frames. The 606 Bottom Strike mortises into the floor with expansion shields, stainless steel construction, rated for panic and fire applications.
Specifications
Device centerline from finished floor is 41 inches (1041mm) standard, 38 inches (965mm) for elementary school applications. Center case dimensions are 8-3/8 inches x 2-5/8 inches (213mm x 67mm). Pushbar projection is 3 inches (76mm) neutral and 2-1/8 inches (54mm) depressed. Designed for standard 84-inch door height. Electric Options
The 55- prefix adds a Request to Exit (REX) switch for access control panel integration and valid exit logging.
