What Field Selectable VandlGard Does

VandlGard is Schlage's anti-vandalism lever protection that prevents the most common form of lever damage in commercial installations: someone grabbing the lever and pulling down hard, either deliberately or accidentally. Without protection, that downward torque shears the lever spindle or bends the lever itself. With VandlGard engaged, the lever disengages under excessive downward load and freewheels rather than transferring that force into the mechanism. The lever stays functional for normal operation but can't be broken off by brute force.

"Field selectable" means you can turn VandlGard on or off after installation without any special tools or parts. On a door schedule where some openings need the protection and others don't, you can stock a single SKU and configure it appropriately per opening. That's the inventory simplification the ALX modular design delivers over the old AL Series.

Available in 10 standard finishes: 605 Bright Brass, 606 Satin Brass, 612 Satin Bronze, 613 Oil Rubbed Bronze, 619 Satin Nickel, 625 Bright Chrome, 626 Satin Chrome, 626AM Satin Chrome Antimicrobial, 643E Aged Bronze, and 622 Matte Black. The antimicrobial 626AM finish is worth specifying on healthcare, food service, and school applications where surface pathogen reduction is part of the facility requirement.
