Schlage L9050 17 Mortise Office and Inner Entry Lock 

ANSI F04

Latchbolt retracted by knob/lever from either side unless outside is made inoperative by key outside or by turning inside thumbturn. When outside is locked, latchbolt is retracted by key outside or by knob/lever inside. Outside knob/lever remains locked until thumbturn is returned to vertical or unlocked by key. Auxiliary latch deadlocks latchbolt when door is closed. Inside lever is always free for immediate egress.

The Schlage L9050 is the office/inner entry function in Schlage's L-Series heavy-duty mortise lock family. It carries ANSI function F04 and it's the go-to specification for private offices, inner corridors, and any door where the occupant inside needs to be able to lock out visitors without leaving the room.

 

The "17" in the model number refers to the lever style- the 17A, 17B, 17N, and 17L are all available on this listing and they're designed to match Schlage's ND-Series lever shapes if you're running both cylindrical and mortise locks on the same project. What ANSI F04 Actually Does

 

F04 is one of the most specified mortise functions for offices because it gives the occupant inside real control without requiring a key. Here's how the full operation breaks down:

 

When the outside lever is unlocked, the latchbolt retracts freely from either side by lever. That's standard entry mode- anyone with access can push through.

 

The occupant inside can lock the outside lever two ways: by turning the thumbturn on the inside rose, or someone outside can lock it with a key. Once the outside is locked, the outside lever doesn't move. Entry from outside requires a key. The person inside can still leave freely at any time- the inside lever is always free for immediate egress.

 

To unlock from inside without a key, the thumbturn rotates back to vertical. The outside lever is immediately operational again.

 

The auxiliary latch deadlocks the latchbolt automatically when the door closes, so the latch can't be pushed back by hand. That's standard across the L-Series.

 

L9050 vs L9053 vs L9080: Picking the Right Function

 

The L9050 (F04) is office/inner entry- both inside and outside can operate the lever, outside can be locked by thumbturn or key from outside.

 

The L9053 (F05) is entrance/office- outside is normally locked, key required for entry, inside always free. That's the storeroom/office variant people reach for when outside entry should be controlled at all times.

 

The L9080 (F07) adds a deadbolt to the latchbolt- for applications that need two-point securing.

 

If your hardware schedule calls for F04, the L9050 is it.
