DEU Function: What Fail Secure Means
DEU is BEST's function code for fail secure electrified latch operation. It works the opposite of what people sometimes assume. Power applied to the solenoid = outside lever locked, outside access denied. Power removed from the solenoid = outside lever unlocked, outside access granted. In a complete power failure, the door defaults to the unlocked (open) state. Inside lever is always free for egress regardless of the power state.

45H Case Construction
The 45H case is 0.095-inch cold rolled steel the same gauge as the 40H mechanical mortise case zinc dichromate plated for corrosion protection. Case dimensions: 5-7/8"H x 7/8"D x 4-1/16"W. Four case cover screws, one at each corner, plus an interlocking armored front and cover design provide case integrity under forced entry attempts. A roller bearing hub mechanism gives smooth, wear-resistant lever operation. The fusible link is built in for fire-rated applications. The four-position hub toggle determines whether each hub is always locked, always unlocked, or locked by key handling is changed without opening the case.
The stainless steel faceplate (8"H x 1-1/4"W x 1/16"T) self-aligns to the door bevel automatically during installation on both standard 1-3/4-inch and reverse-bevel doors.
