The 1220 in the Yale LFIC Series
Yale's Large Format Interchangeable Core line uses two model numbers based on pin count. The 1210 is the 6-pin LFIC. The 1220 is the 7-pin LFIC. Seven-pin cores expand the number of usable key changes in a masterkey system and allow higher-level master keys at the top of a complex hierarchy.
LFIC vs SFIC: Critical Distinction
Yale's LFIC (Large Format Interchangeable Core) and BEST's SFIC (Small Format Interchangeable Core) are completely different formats and are not interchangeable. The 1220 is an LFIC core. It does not fit SFIC housings. SFIC cores are the smaller format used in BEST Access Systems locks, BEST-prepped Schlage hardware, and other SFIC-compatible products. The A600 Housing and Core Relationship

How the Control Key Works
The 1220 LFIC uses two key types. Operating keys use an "R" bow (round head) and include change keys, master keys, and grand master keys. Control keys use an "F" bow (diamond head) and are stamped with the word "Control." Inserting and turning the control key to a specific position releases the core from the housing without disassembling the lock. A new core slides in and locks mechanically in place when the control key is removed.
Control keys are NOT included when ordering the 1220 core alone. If a control key is required, it must be specified as a separate item at the time of order. Control key blank: FN118CE1R for PARA/E1R keyway cores.
Keyway Options and Keying
The 1220 is available in Yale standard keyways including GA, GB, GC, GD, GF, PARA, TA, SA, SB, SD, and others. BEST keyways A through M are also available. Yale KeyMark patented protected keyway cores are available separately. The standard 626 finish version ships 0-bitted (uncombinated) as listed, keyed different, or masterkeyed. Yale provides masterkeying for new systems only using A2 or A4 pinning specifications. LFIC systems cannot be integrated with conventional Yale cylinders or Yale KeyMark systems.
