About this item
The Corbin Russwin 8000 is a 6-pin large-format interchangeable core (LFIC) that lets you rekey a Corbin Russwin lock in seconds without removing it from the door. Often searched as the CR8000, it's the standard Corbin Russwin core for cylindrical locks, mortise locks, deadbolts, and exit-device cylinders set up for interchangeable cores. It ships 0-bits (uncombinated) with the L4 keyway standard, plus 59A1, 59A2, 60, 67, D1, D2, and D3 keyways available, so you key it to your system. The whole point of an interchangeable core is speed and control: pull the old core with a control key, drop in the new one, and the door is rekeyed, no disassembly, no locksmith call-out for routine changes.
LFIC vs SFIC: read this before ordering
This is the detail that trips people up, so here it is plainly. The Corbin Russwin 8000 is a large-format interchangeable core (LFIC), which uses a figure-8 shaped body. It is not an SFIC (small-format interchangeable core). If you searched for a Corbin Russwin SFIC core, that's worth pausing on, because LFIC and SFIC are physically different and not interchangeable. The 8000 LFIC fits Corbin Russwin LFIC-format housings (and is compatible across Sargent and Medeco LFIC hardware in the ASSA ABLOY ecosystem), while an SFIC housing needs a small-format core instead. Before ordering, check whether your lock housing is built for large-format or small-format cores. Match the wrong one and it physically won't seat. If your Corbin Russwin locks take large-format cores, the 8000 is the correct part.
How the interchangeable core saves time over a building's life
For any facility that rekeys often, schools, hotels, hospitals, offices, multi-tenant buildings, interchangeable cores are the reason the keying stays manageable. Instead of pulling the lock apart or replacing cylinders when an employee leaves, a key goes missing, or a tenant turns over, a control key pops the core out and a new core goes in. The lock never leaves the door. Across dozens or hundreds of openings, that's a major saving in labor and downtime, and it's why IC is recommended for virtually every commercial keying system. The 8000 core works on a separate control-key shear line for removal, while normal operating, master, and grand-master keys run the lock as usual.
