What the TP160 Is For
When a Bosch DS150i or DS160 PIR detector is wall-mounted over a single-gang box used for the wiring connection, the box opening remains exposed around the base of the detector unless a trim plate is used. The TP160 covers that gap and provides a professional, finished installation that hides the mounting hardware and the box edge. It is not required when the detector is surface-mounted on a flat wall without a single-gang box, but on installations where the wiring was roughed into a standard electrical box, the TP160 is the correct finishing accessory.
The TP160 matches the light gray color of the DS150 and DS160 enclosures so the trim plate and detector body present as a single unified unit on the wall. It installs as part of the detector mounting process and does not require separate fasteners beyond those used in the detector mount itself.
DS150 and DS160 Series: What These Detectors Do
The Bosch DS150i and DS160 are passive infrared (PIR) request-to-exit detectors, UL listed as access control devices under UL 294. They are designed for REX applications where a person approaching a controlled door from the secured side triggers a motion detection signal that commands the access control system to release the electric lock or electric strike without requiring a credential from the inside. The PIR coverage area of the DS150i is 8 feet x 10 feet (2.4m x 3m). Both series are intended for interior installation only.
The DS160 adds capabilities beyond the DS150i, including door monitor input, a built-in sounder for door-propped alerts, Sequential Logic Input (SLI) for high-security REX applications where a second device must be triggered before the exit relay fires, and an adjustable latch time up to 64 seconds. The DS150i is suited for standard interior doors in low to medium security applications. The DS160 is specified for higher-security installations, exterior access doors, and doors with gaps or weather stripping where unauthorized remote triggering of the REX is a concern.
The TP160 trim plate is a required accessory whenever either detector is wall-mounted over a single-gang box on any of these installations.
TP160 vs. TP161
The TP160 is light gray, matching the DS150 and DS160 light gray detector enclosures. The TP161 is black, matching the DS151i and DS161 black enclosures. Confirm the enclosure color of your installed detector before ordering. Mixing a gray trim plate with a black detector enclosure produces a visible mismatch at the wall.
