About this item
The Cal Royal HIL30 is a single locking interconnected lever lock, combining a heavy-duty deadbolt and a cylindrical latch into one coordinated unit. If you searched "cal royal interconnected lock", "cal-royal interconnected lock", "royal hil", or "hellohello"-this is the HIL Series from Cal Royal's interconnected lock line. An interconnected lock is not two separate locks on the same door. It's one hardware assembly where both bolts are mechanically linked so a single inside action retracts both simultaneously.
What an Interconnected Lock Actually Does
Most residential and light commercial doors use a cylindrical lever lock for the latch and a separate deadbolt above it. Two separate keys, two separate operations to lock and unlock. If someone inside needs to exit in a hurry, they have to turn the lever and separately throw the deadbolt before opening the door.
An interconnected lock eliminates that. The HIL30 has a heavy-duty deadbolt on top and a cylindrical latch below, housed in one assembly. From inside, turning the inside lever retracts both the deadbolt and the latchbolt simultaneously in a single motion. No separate deadbolt operation required for egress. This is why interconnected locks are used in hotel guestrooms, assisted living rooms, apartment entry doors, and any application where single-action inside egress is a life-safety requirement.
ANSI F95: The Interconnected Function Explained
ANSI Function F95 is the passage lever interconnected function. The deadbolt is thrown or retracted by key from outside, or by the inside turn unit. The latchbolt is retracted by lever from either side at any time. From inside, a single lever rotation simultaneously retracts both the deadbolt and the latch-one motion, door opens. This is the "single locking" designation in the HIL30 model name. Single locking means one key operation locks and unlocks the outside. The inside always exits with one action.
HIL30 vs JHIL30: Lever Style Is the Only Difference
Cal Royal offers multiple lever designs in the HIL Series. HIL30 is the 30 lever style. JHIL30 is the same lock in the J lever style. Same function (F95), same ANSI compliance, same deadbolt and latch specs, same installation. If your project specifies a different lever design, check Cal Royal's HIL Series lever chart and order the prefix that matches. The core product and all electrical and mechanical specifications are identical.
Construction and Door Prep
The deadbolt is 1-inch throw, UL-listed, adjustable for 2-3/4-inch and 2-3/8-inch backset, solid brass bolt with hardened steel anti-saw pin. The latchbolt is 1/2-inch throw. Door thickness range is 1-3/8 to 1-3/4 inches. Standard backset is 2-3/4 inches. Housing is steel with zinc dichromate finish for corrosion resistance. Individual springs on both the exterior and interior lever sides prevent lever sag over time-a detail most competing brands skip on interconnected hardware.
The 6-pin solid brass cylinder ships standard with the C keyway. The lever is key-removable for quick cylinder replacement or rekeying without disassembling the lock body. IC versions are available-the ICHIL30 accepts SFIC cores for facilities running interchangeable core key systems.
