Door Stops/Holders
We carry commercial door stops and door holders in floor, wall, overhead, kick-down, and electromagnetic configurations from Glynn Johnson, Norton Rixson, Rockwood, Ives, Tell, Trimco, and Hager.
Door Stop vs. Door Holder: What Is the Functional Difference?
A door stop limits how far the door swings open it prevents door-to-wall damage and protects the closer arm from overswing. A door holder does the same job and adds the ability to hold the door in the open position until released. Floor stops are correct for private offices and low-traffic interior doors. Overhead stops are the specification for institutional corridors where floor stops create trip hazards. Kick-down holders are used where an adjustable hold-open without overhead mounting is needed.
Electromagnetic Door Holders: Required on Fire-Rated Hold-Open Doors
NFPA 80 prohibits wedging or blocking fire-rated doors open. Electromagnetic door holders are the code-compliant hold-open solution for fire doors. The magnetic holding face releases when power is interrupted either manually by a wall switch or automatically when the fire alarm panel activates. Required on any rated corridor door, stairwell door, or fire assembly door that must remain open during occupied hours. Installing a physical wedge or rubber stop on a fire door is a fire code violation that fails NFPA 80 inspection.
