The Dormakaba P2031BLL is the PowerPlex version of the cylindrical electronic keypad lock: same Grade 1 certification, same 100-code capacity, same three operation modes, same SFIC key override prep for BEST-compatible 6 or 7 pin interchangeable cores. The single difference from the E2031BLL battery-powered version is power. The P2031BLL uses Dormakaba's PowerStar technology: every turn of the outside lever drives a small internal generator that stores energy in a capacitor. No batteries. No battery replacement schedule. No battery failure event that takes down an access-controlled door on a Friday evening.

The SFIC prep means the lock housing is machined to accept a BEST-compatible interchangeable core but ships without one. The core is ordered and managed separately through the facility's IC key control program. How to Install the P2031BLL PowerPlex

The P2031BLL installs into a standard ANSI A115.2 cylindrical door preparation: 2-1/8" cross-bore through the door face, 1" latch bore in the door edge, and standard 2-3/4" backset. If the door already has a cylindrical lock, the existing door prep is typically compatible with no modification. Doors prepared for Schlage, Sargent, Corbin Russwin, or Best cylindrical locks will accept this lock.

The installation process follows the PowerPlex 2000 installation guide. The guide covers the latch installation in the door edge, routing the wiring harness from the outside assembly through the door to the inside assembly, connecting the harness, and mounting both trim sides. Once mounted, the lock is programmed at the keypad using the master code sequence: enter manager code, enter new user code, confirm. After physical installation, an SFIC core is installed if key override is required. The core drops in with the control key and seats in the housing. The PowerStar capacitor charges automatically with the first few lever cycles after installation.

P2031BLL vs. E2031BLL: PowerStar vs. Battery

The P2031BLL (PowerStar, this product) and E2031BLL (battery-powered) are the same lock in every specification except power source. Both use SFIC prep, both store 100 codes, both provide 1,000 audit events, both are Grade 1. The P2031BLL costs more because the PowerStar generator mechanism adds manufacturing complexity. For facilities where battery maintenance is a significant operational burden, the P2031BLL pays back the premium in reduced service visits. For budget-constrained projects where the facilities team handles regular battery changes on a schedule, the E2031BLL at a lower price delivers the same function.

P2031BLL vs. P2031XSLL: SFIC vs. Schlage C

Both are PowerPlex (PowerStar, no batteries). The P2031XSLL includes a factory-installed Schlage C keyway cylinder for mechanical key override.
