About this item
The LCN 9542 is a Grade 1 low-energy electromechanical automatic door operator built for push-side, single-door, surface-mount applications on offset pivot or butt-hinged doors. It's part of LCN's 9540 Series Senior Swing lineup, which is the brand's heaviest-duty automatic operator, designed specifically for high-traffic, high-abuse commercial environments where consistent ADA-compliant access is required. This is the operator that shows up on hardware schedules for healthcare facilities, schools, government buildings, transportation hubs, and any public entrance where the push side needs hands-free accessibility.
It's an Allegion manufactured product. American Locksets is an authorized Allegion dealer.
How Push 'N Go and Power Boost Work Together
The 9542 doesn't need a wall switch or touchpad to activate. Push 'N Go takes over the moment a pedestrian manually opens the door past 5 degrees. At that point, the operator assumes control, swings the door fully open, and holds it for the configured hold-open period before closing. This matters in high-traffic corridors where people carrying items or pushing carts can't stop to press a button.
Power Boost handles the close cycle. It delivers additional closing force to ensure the door fully latches every time, including in severe crosswind conditions where standard closers fail to complete the cycle. On exterior doors, this is the feature that eliminates the "door didn't latch" problem that creates security and weatherproofing issues.
Together, these two features handle the full open-and-close cycle without staff intervention and without relying on users to correctly activate a switch.
Certifications and Code Compliance
The LCN 9542 meets the requirements that matter for commercial specification:
ANSI A156.19 (low-energy power-operated doors) is the primary compliance standard. The 9540 Series is also UL listed under UL 325 and UL 1998, UL listed for fire-rated door applications, and meets ADA requirements when operating in power mode. It also complies with ANSI A117.1 accessibility standards, the International Building Code, and qualifies under the Buy American Act (BAA) for government projects. Salt spray testing is rated at 100 hours, which covers coastal and high-humidity installations.
Physical Specifications and What Ships with the Unit
The 9542 is a surface-mounted, push-side operator with a 36-inch standard header length. Handed product, specify left-hand (LH) or right-hand (RH) on order. The operator ships as a complete unit including the motor gearbox, control box, standard arm, header, and mounting hardware. Actuators are available separately and must be ordered based on your activation method. The digital keypad makes field setup and programming straightforward without proprietary software.
You can adjust the hold-open time anywhere between 2 and 32 seconds in both automatic and manual modes, giving installers the flexibility to tailor it based on the door size, traffic flow, and the needs of the people using the space.
Standard finishes are ANCLR (Aluminum Clear Anodized) and ANDKB (Aluminum Dark Bronze). Operating voltage is 115V.
9542 vs 9541 and the 9542IQ
The 9542 is the push-side version of the Senior Swing. The 9541 handles the pull side. The 9550 Series handles simultaneous double-door applications. If your project spec calls for the 9542IQ, that model adds LCN's IQ technology for enhanced diagnostics and access control integration. Contact us to confirm which configuration fits your opening.
