The Norton Rixson 6-B/F is an adjustable frame-mounted bracket that enables the installation of a 78 Series door closer on arched or circular top door openings where a standard closer mount is not possible. Standard door closer brackets are designed for square-top frames. When the frame has a curved or arched top, the standard mounting geometry doesn't work. The 6-B/F solves that with a fully adjustable bracket that conforms to virtually any radius of frame, letting you fit a proper self-closing mechanism on architectural openings without modifying the frame.

What the 6-B/F Does and How It Mounts

The 6-B/F mounts on the frame, not the door. It's specifically designed for opposite hinge side application, which means the bracket attaches to the frame on the pull side of the door (the side you pull toward you). The adjustable design accommodates the arc of the frame rather than requiring a fixed bracket angle, which is why it works across a wide range of arched and circular frame profiles.

The minimum soffit width for this bracket is 2-1/2 inches (64mm). The soffit is the depth of the door frame reveal at the top of the opening. If your arched frame at the top measures less than 2-1/2 inches, this bracket won't seat properly.

This bracket is intended for 90-degree door swing only. If your application requires a wider swing angle, a different solution is needed.

The Closer Hand Requirement

This is the detail most installers miss on the first order. The 6-B/F requires a regular arm door closer of the OPPOSITE hand from the door. If you have a right-hand door, you need a left-hand 78-B/F closer, and vice versa. This is because the bracket geometry for the arched frame reverses the effective handing of the closer arm. Order the wrong hand and the arm won't reach the door correctly. Always specify the opposite hand from the door when ordering the 78 Series closer to pair with this bracket.
