The PDQ SD116 is the entrance/office function lock in PDQ's SD Series Grade 2 cylindrical lock line. ANSI F109: The Dual-Mode Push Button Explained

ANSI Function F109 is what separates the SD116 from the simpler entrance functions. Most entry locks have a single-mode push button-push it, outside lever locks, inside lever or key unlocks it. F109 has two modes of button operation at the inside.

Mode one: push the button straight in. The outside lever locks. Key from outside or rotating the inside lever unlocks the outside lever. This is the standard "occupied" lock used during business hours when staff want to control who enters.

Mode two: push and turn the button on the inside. This holds the outside lever locked even after someone uses a key from outside or rotates the inside lever. A key from outside will still retract the latchbolt and let the door open, but the outside lever stays locked after that entry. Only manually releasing the button from inside returns the outside lever to free operation.

That second mode is the office function-it lets a person inside lock down the outside lever so that repeated key use from outside doesn't automatically un-lock the room. In exam rooms, therapy offices, and private consultation spaces, that distinction matters. Inside lever is always free regardless of which mode is active.

PDQ SD Series: Through-Bolt Construction

The SD116 uses through-bolt attachment. The fasteners pass through the door from outside to inside rather than threading only into the escutcheon or rose. Through-bolting distributes pull force across the full door thickness instead of relying only on the rose mounting screws. The bolts are also removable if desired-maintenance access or device replacement doesn't require drilling out fasteners.

The chassis is heavy-gauge cold-rolled steel with dichromate coating for corrosion resistance. Door prep is the standard 161 cylindrical prep-2-1/8 inch cross bore at 2-3/4 inch backset. Door thickness range is 1-3/8 to 1-3/4 inches. The front plate is 2-1/4 inches by 1-1/8 inches for the 2-3/4-inch backset configuration.

SD Series Function Comparison
