Sargent 8204 Storeroom Mortise Lock, ANSI Function F07, 8200 Series Grade 1

The 8204 operates on ANSI Function F07. The outside lever is locked at all times and never operates without a key. A key in the outside cylinder retracts the latchbolt for entry. The inside lever is always free and retracts the latchbolt at any time without a key. The latchbolt re-locks automatically when the key is removed and the door closes.

The behavioral simplicity of the storeroom function is what makes it the workhorse of commercial hardware schedules. There are no modes to switch, no thumbturns to manage, no access control panel to worry about on a mechanical installation. A door is either locked or it isn't, and only a valid key from the exterior changes that state. It almost never creates code complications because inside egress is always free.

The 8204 is the correct specification over an office/entry function when the door must stay locked externally at all times, not just when someone remembers to lock it. If the door can be found unlocked under any normal operating condition, specify the 8205 office function instead. If the door must always require a key for entry, specify the 8204.

Specifications

The 8200 Series lock case is 12-gauge heavy-duty wrought steel, zinc dichromate plated, 7/64 inch (3mm / 0.109 inch) thick. The internal front is 1/8 inch (0.125 inch) cold-rolled steel. Hubs are cold-forged steel with a high carbon steel spring cartridge for superior wear resistance and cycle life.

The 8200 Series completed independent UL cycle testing at 16 million cycles, Verification ID V584148. The Grade 1 minimum requirement is 1 million cycles.
