Sargent 8206 Storeroom Lock: No Outside Trim, Key Controls Latchbolt

The 8206 function means the outside of the door has no lever, no knob, and no escutcheon trim. There is only a cylinder and a cylinder rose on the exterior face. Turning the key retracts the latchbolt and allows the door to be pulled open. When the door closes, the latchbolt re-latches automatically. The inside lever always operates freely for egress at any time without a key.

This is different from the 8204, which is also a storeroom function but includes an outside lever trim. The 8206 is the correct specification when the hardware schedule calls for a keyed storeroom mortise lock with no exterior handle, which is appropriate for service access doors, utility corridors, storage rooms where no pull handle is needed, and openings where the exterior appearance should be minimal with only a cylinder visible.

Sargent 8206 vs. 8204: Choosing the Correct Storeroom Function

Both the 8204 and 8206 are storeroom functions on the 8200 Series platform. The outside lever is always locked on both. The difference is exterior trim. The 8204 includes an outside lever, which gives the occupant a lever handle to grip when using a key for entry and provides a complete door hardware appearance matching the rest of the opening schedule. The 8206 has no outside lever or trim, which is the correct specification when the exterior of the door should present only a cylinder, as on service access doors, utility spaces, and storage openings where no exterior handle is desired.

If a hardware schedule calls for a storeroom mortise lock with no outside handle, the 8206 is the correct order. If an outside lever is needed for grip and appearance, the 8204 is the correct order.
