About this item
The Sargent 8250 is the hotel guest function configuration of the Sargent 8200 series mortise lock, one of the most specified commercial mortise locks in North America. Built for hotels, dormitories, apartments, and multi-family residential buildings, this Sargent mortise lock combines a single cylinder deadbolt with a controlled outside lever to give property managers complete entry control while keeping guests safe inside. It far exceeds ANSI/BHMA A156.13 Series 1000 Grade 1 standards for both operational strength and security, verified independently at 16 million cycles, which is 14 times the ANSI requirement.
How the Sargent 8250 Hotel Guest Function Works (ANSI F15)
The outside lever is always rigid. Guests can only enter by key, keeping the room secured whenever it is unoccupied. From inside, the lever freely retracts both the latchbolt and deadbolt simultaneously, so there is never a blocked egress condition. The inside thumbturn controls the deadbolt independently and includes a visible occupied indicator on the keyed side so housekeeping and staff can see at a glance whether the room is deadbolted.
The standard key retracts the latchbolt only. An emergency key, available separately, retracts both the latchbolt and deadbolt for emergency entry when a guest has locked themselves in. This is a required feature on hotel projects and one that most competing product pages never mention.
Why the Sargent 8200 Series Leads the Market
The 8200 series completes cycle testing at 16 million cycles, which is 14 times the ANSI/BHMA Grade 1 requirement. Heavy duty wrought steel hubs and a high carbon steel spring cartridge drive that durability. The latchbolt is solid stainless steel with a 3/4-inch anti-friction projection that reverses without opening the case, so handing can be changed in the field. The multifunctional lock body allows function changes on-site without removing the lock from the door, which cuts inventory requirements and installation time significantly on large hotel projects.
Key System Compatibility
The Sargent 8250 integrates with Conventional, LFIC (60- and 63-series), Degree (60-, 63-, and 64-series), Keso (82- and F1-82-series), Signature, and XC key systems. This makes it straightforward to integrate into an existing Sargent key program across a full property without forcing a master rekey.
