About this item
The Cal-Royal CR3000, also known simply as the CR3000, is a Grade 1 heavy duty digital keypad cylindrical lever lock built for offices, schools, hospitals, apartment buildings, hotels, and commercial facilities where reliable keyless access control is required without a networked system or wiring infrastructure. It combines a mechanical cylinder backup, a tactile metal keypad, and a structured multi-level code management system into a single door lock that installs on any standard cylindrical door prep. It meets or exceeds ANSI/BHMA A156.2 Series 4000 Grade 1 requirements, is BHMA certified, UL listed for 3-hour fire doors, and fully ADA compliant.
How the CR3000 Code Hierarchy Works
Most keypad locks give you a flat list of user codes. The CR3000 operates on a structured hierarchy that makes managing large facilities significantly easier. At the top is one Master Code, which controls all programming functions including adding, deleting, or changing any other code in the system. Below that is one Sub-Master Code, which can perform all programming functions except changing or deleting the Master Code itself. Below that are 10 Manager Codes, each managing their own bank of 9 User Codes. That gives you 90 User Codes total, organized under the 10 Managers who control them. There are also 5 Service Codes, which are single-use codes that auto-delete after one successful entry the right tool for contractors, delivery personnel, or one-time access situations.
The CR3000 includes two features that save time when managing that many codes. The Next Free Code Location Finder identifies the next available code slot automatically, eliminating guesswork when adding new users. The Code Locator Function tells you exactly which Manager bank a given code belongs to, making it simple to audit and update code assignments across a full property.
Clutch Technology and Anti-Tamper Protection
The outside lever of the CR3000 uses clutch technology, meaning the lever spins freely without engaging the latch mechanism when no valid code has been entered. This prevents forced lever attacks from breaking the spindle or damaging internal lock components, which is the most common failure mode on standard commercial keypad locks under heavy use or tampering attempts. If an invalid code is entered three consecutive times, the keypad locks out for 30 seconds. The lockout resets immediately if either remote switch terminal is activated, which matters for front desk override in hotel or apartment applications.
Remote Switch Integration and Fire Alarm Compatibility
The CR3000 includes two remote switch terminals. Each can be wired independently to an emergency push button or connected to an alarm system such as a fire alarm. When the fire alarm activates and triggers the remote switch, the 30-second anti-tamper lockout resets and the lock allows access, which is the correct behavior for emergency egress and emergency response scenarios.
Passage Mode and LED Feedback
Passage Mode unlocks the lock continuously until disabled manually, which is useful during business hours when unrestricted entry is needed without requiring code entry every time. Every key press triggers a blue LED flash and an audible beep confirmation. Access granted produces two beeps and a flashing blue LED. Access denied or a disabled code produces a red LED response. Low battery triggers five beeps and five red LED flashes before lockout, giving advance warning before battery failure.
