About this item
Hotel maintenance staff and building superintendents know the situation: a guest accidentally engages the privacy door latch from inside, then can't release it or leaves the room with the latch engaged, and the door gets stuck partially open but won't open fully. The corridor key card does nothing. The latch isn't locked, it's physically blocking the door from swinging open. The Cal-Royal PDL-200 is the tool that fixes this without damaging the door, the latch, or the frame. It's a steel disengage tool specifically designed for the Cal-Royal HPDL series hotel privacy door latches, and it solves the problem in seconds.

When and How to Use the PDL-200
The PDL-200 has one specific use case. The door must be unlocked and partially open, but unable to swing fully open because the interior privacy latch was accidentally engaged. In that condition, you insert the PDL-200 through the gap between the door edge and the frame, hook the tool around the engaged privacy latch mechanism, and retract it. The latch releases and the door opens fully. It takes a few seconds when you know what you're doing.
This tool does not open a locked door. It cannot be used to bypass a deadbolt, a cylindrical lock, or any keyed function. Its only job is releasing a mechanically engaged privacy door latch when the door is already in the cracked-open position. This distinction matters when purchasing for hotel inventory. Keep one PDL-200 at the front desk and one at the maintenance office for each property where HPDL258 latches are installed.
Cal-Royal PDL-200 Technical Specifications

These are the same dimensions as the Pemko privacy door latch release tool (2.5" x 9.5"), making the PDL-200 a direct equivalent for facilities sourcing replacements for that specification.

If your facility uses a different brand of hotel privacy latch, confirm the latch geometry before ordering. The PDL-200 is designed specifically for the HPDL258's internal release mechanism.
Why Hotel Properties Keep This Tool in Stock
The Cal-Royal HPDL258 privacy latch is installed on corridor-to-room openings in hotels, dormitories, apartments, and assisted living facilities. It allows the door to open slightly for occupant identification while preventing full entry. The latch cannot hold the door open in any fixed position. When it accidentally engages while a room is unoccupied or a guest is non-responsive, the PDL-200 is the only way to clear the latch without removing the door hardware or damaging the door assembly. Properties with 50 or more rooms should keep at least two tools on site. The PDL-200 is a low-cost insurance item for any HPDL258 installation.
