About this item
The storeroom function is one of the most frequently misspecified lock functions in commercial door hardware. Contractors sometimes order an entrance lock for a restricted access room thinking a push-button will handle security, and then discover that anyone inside the room can unlock the outside lever. The Cal-Royal SG05 eliminates that confusion entirely. It's a Grade 2 cylindrical lever lock, ANSI Function F86, where the outside lever is always rigid. There's no push-button, no toggle, and no way to retract the latch from outside without a key. Period.
This is the correct lock for server rooms, pharmacy storage areas, drug cabinets, supply closets, utility rooms, maintenance areas, and any commercial opening where key-only outside entry is a hard requirement. Browse the complete Cal-Royal lever lock lineup to compare storeroom, entrance, passage, and classroom functions across the Challenger Series, or view all commercial door locks across every brand.
How ANSI Function F86 Works
The SG05 operates as follows. From the outside, the lever is always fixed and rigid. The only way to retract the latchbolt from outside is to insert and turn a key in the outside cylinder. The latchbolt retracts and the door opens. Remove the key and the lever is fixed again. From the inside, the lever always operates freely for immediate egress regardless of any locked condition outside. The inside lever retracts the deadlocking latchbolt without a key from inside at all times.
This is different from ANSI Function F109, the entrance function on the SG00. The entrance function has a normally free outside lever that gets locked by a push-button or turn button when needed. The storeroom function has a permanently fixed outside lever. The distinction determines whether occupants inside a space can ever accidentally leave the door unlockable from outside, which they can with the entrance function but cannot with F86.
