The passage function is the simplest lever lock function in commercial hardware, and it's also one of the most commonly over-specified. Contractors who aren't sure which function to order sometimes default to an entrance lock when all a door actually needs is a passage lever. The Cal-Royal SG30 is what that door should get instead. It's a Grade 2 Challenger Series passage lever lock, ANSI Function F01, where the latch bolt is operated by lever from either side at all times with no locking mechanism of any kind. No push button, no turn button, no cylinder, no key. Just a lever that latches the door closed and opens it from both sides freely.

How ANSI Function F01 Works
The latch bolt on the SG30 retracts any time either lever is turned, from either side of the door. There is no locked state, no button to engage, no cylinder to key, and no emergency access tool needed because the door can never be locked. Turning either lever from either side always opens the door. The latch bolt holds the door closed when released, which is the only mechanical function this lock performs. It's a latching lever with no security function.
This is the correct specification for interior corridors, hallways, conference rooms, break rooms, supply closets, server room anteroom doors, and any commercial opening where security is not required but the door needs to latch shut. It's also the standard hardware for building areas where fire code requires free egress in both directions without any locking hardware installed.

Passage vs. Privacy vs. Entrance: Knowing Which to Order
This is where most ordering mistakes happen on door schedules. Passage (SG30) has no locking function at all. Privacy (SG20) locks from inside with a turn button and provides emergency outside access via a coin tool. Entrance (SG00) has a normally free outside lever that can be locked by a push button and requires a key to unlock. Storeroom (SG05) has an always-fixed outside lever requiring a key for every outside entry. If your opening requires any form of security or controlled access, the SG30 is not the right lock. The passage function exists purely for doors that need to latch but must remain accessible from both sides without restriction at all times.
Optional Clutch and Finish Options
The SG30 is available with an optional clutch mechanism that causes the lever to freewheel if excessive force is applied, protecting the mechanism from damage on high-traffic doors where lever abuse is common.
