About this item
Most mortise lock cylinders take a key. The 1300 Series doesn't. It's Corbin Russwin's thumbturn mortise cylinder, the inside-turn component used when a mortise lock needs to be operated by thumb from the interior side without a key. You turn it with your thumb or fingers, the cam rotates, and the lock function activates. No key required on the inside. This is the component that makes a double-cylinder deadbolt a one-key-side design, gives a privacy mortise lock its inside turn capability, or provides the inside unlock function on an entrance mortise lock in a hotel room or office suite.
The 1300-118 is the 1-1/8" length version, compatible with standard mortise lock trim and rose configurations where a 1-1/8" cylinder projection is required. What a Thumbturn Mortise Cylinder Does
A standard mortise lock uses two cylinder positions: an outside keyway cylinder that requires a key for entry, and an inside position that can be either a second keyway cylinder (for double cylinder applications) or a thumbturn. The thumbturn cylinder fills the inside position and allows the occupant to throw the deadbolt, retract the latch, or change the lock function from the interior without needing a key in hand. In a hotel or hospital room, a guest turns the thumbturn to engage the privacy deadbolt. In an office entrance, the thumbturn lets staff lock up from the inside at close of business without using a key on the interior side.
The 1300 Series is the Corbin Russwin thumbturn line. The 1300-118 specifically is the 1-1/8" length, which is the standard dimension for most Corbin Russwin mortise trim and escutcheon configurations.

Cam Options Explained
The cam is the rotating component inside the cylinder tail that operates the lock function when the thumbturn is turned. Three cam options are available on the 1300-118. The A01 is the standard Corbin Russwin cam compatible with the full ML2000 and ML2070 mortise lock series. The A02 cam covers specific alternate mortise body configurations. The A03 is the Adams Rite MS cam, used when the 1300-118 is being fitted into an Adams Rite or compatible multi-point lock body. Confirm your mortise lock body and cam requirement before ordering. Ordering the wrong cam requires a cylinder swap.
Classroom Function Note
Classroom function thumbturn cylinders have a blocking pin that prevents the cam from rotating in the locking direction. This is required in classroom applications where ANSI A156.30 and school security standards require that the locking function cannot be operated from the inside by a turn of the thumbturn. A standard thumbturn cylinder and a classroom thumbturn cylinder look identical from the exterior. If your project specifies classroom function, confirm the classroom pin is present before installation.
