How the ML2020 Privacy Function Works

From inside, the occupant turns the thumb turn button to lock the outside lever. The outside lever is completely rigid when locked. No key, no force from outside will retract the latch. Turning the inside lever simultaneously releases the thumbturn lock and retracts the latch in one motion, so exiting the room automatically unlocks the door. Inside lever is always free for immediate egress regardless of locked status. From outside, a facility manager inserts a small coin or emergency tool into the outside trim access hole and rotates to release the lock without a key. This is the emergency access required by building code on all privacy function doors.

There is no cylinder and no key on either side in the standard ML2020 privacy configuration. Access control from the outside is emergency access only. If your project requires keyed privacy with full outside key override, the ML2040 privacy with deadbolt and cylinder is the appropriate function.
