About this item
The Dormakaba 90J10 is a conventional mortise cylinder: a round plug-and-shell cylinder that drops into the round cylinder hole of a mortise lockset. When a key is inserted and turned, the plug rotates and the cam at the back of the cylinder engages the lock's internal mechanism to retract the bolt or operate the function. The "90" is the Dormakaba series designation for this conventional mortise cylinder family. The "J" is the internal cylinder configuration code within the 90 Series. The "10" specifies the cam type (the 10 cam is the standard commercial cam compatible with most Dormakaba, Best, Falcon, and Schlage mortise lock bodies). The "118" is the 1-1/8" length, which is the most common conventional mortise cylinder length for commercial door preps. The "626" is the Satin Chrome finish.
Keyway is selected at time of order: Schlage C (SC) or Schlage E (SE). Keying options are Keyed Different (standard), Keyed Alike, and Master Keyed. For all cylinders, cores, and keys, browse our cylinders, cores, and keys catalog.
The 10 Cam: What It Is and Which Locks It Fits
The cam is the small rotating piece at the back of the cylinder. When the key turns, the cam turns and pushes or pulls the lock's tailpiece or actuating bar, which operates the latch or deadbolt. Different lock manufacturers use different cam shapes and positions. The 10 cam is the standard cam geometry used across Dormakaba, Schlage L Series and S Series mortise locks, Best, Falcon, and most other commercial mortise lock bodies. It's the default cam for the widest range of commercial mortise lock compatibility. If you're replacing a cylinder in a Dormakaba, Schlage, Best, or Falcon mortise lockset, the 10 cam is the correct specification in most standard applications.

The 7/16" Tapered Ring
The ring on a mortise cylinder is the collar that sits between the face of the lock body and the outer escutcheon trim. It positions the cylinder at the correct depth in the lock body hole. The 7/16" tapered ring is the standard ring depth for most commercial mortise lock preps that accept a 1-1/8" cylinder. "Tapered" means the ring has a slightly angled edge that seats cleanly and prevents the cylinder from rotating in the hole without a set screw. When replacing a cylinder, verify the ring depth matches the existing installation before ordering.
SC vs. SE Keyway: Which to Choose
Schlage C (SC) is the most widely distributed residential and light commercial keyway in North America. If the building runs Schlage C cylinders throughout, select SC to key this cylinder into the existing master key system. Schlage E (SE) is a different key section, typically used when key separation from the C-keyway system is needed: a building might use SC on all common areas and SE on secured service corridors so that building master keys don't cross between departments.
