Dormakaba 9100B Grade 1 Concealed Vertical Rod Exit Device, Wide Stile Pushpad

On the Dormakaba 9100B, the rods are inside the door stile. Nothing is visible on the door face except the pushpad and end caps. The door closes cleanly with no exposed hardware to snag on, catch clothing, or show wear. This is why CVR devices are the standard specification on wide-stile aluminum and hollow metal entrance doors at schools, universities, hospitals, and institutional buildings where appearance and long-term durability both matter.

The 9100B is the B-size configuration: 36" bar for doors 28" to 36" wide. The 9100A covers the larger door range of 34" to 48". 9100 vs. F9100: Panic vs. Fire-Rated

The 9100B is the standard panic exit device. It carries the ANSI Grade 1 certification for panic exit hardware. The F9100 is the fire-rated version of the same device, certified as fire exit hardware under UL10C positive pressure for use on labeled fire doors. On fire-rated door openings (1-hour, 1.5-hour, 3-hour), the AHJ typically requires fire exit hardware, not just panic hardware. Verify the door's fire label before ordering. If the door is fire-labeled, the F9100 is the correct specification. If the door is not fire-labeled or the opening is not in a fire-rated assembly, the 9100B covers the requirement.

Hex key dogging is available on the 9100B and holds the pushpad in the depressed position for free-passage periods. Dogging is not permitted on the F9100 fire-rated version, as fire exit hardware cannot be held in the unlatched position.

Wide Stile CVR vs. Narrow Stile CVR

The 9100 Series is for wide-stile doors (minimum 4-1/2" stile width). For narrow stile doors where the stile is under 4-1/2", the Dormakaba 9700 Series (narrow stile) is the correct specification. Using a wide-stile device on a narrow-stile door creates a mounting problem: the mechanism can't seat properly against the stile, the rods won't align with the strikes, and the pushpad overhangs the stile edge. Measure the door stile before ordering.

9000 Series vs. 8300 Series: Heavy-Duty vs. Commercial

The 8300B is Dormakaba's commercial-grade rim exit device. The 9100B is the heavy-duty concealed vertical rod device for demanding applications. The 9000 Series is built for higher cycle counts and more abuse-resistant applications: school corridors, university dormitories, hospital entrances, and any building where door hardware takes deliberate and repeated punishment from high-traffic occupant populations.
