Dormakaba Eplex 2000 Series
What the Kaba E-Plex 2000 Is and How the Brand Name Changed
The E-Plex 2000 was originally a Kaba product - part of the Kaba Group's access control hardware line before the 2015 merger with Dorma that created dormakaba. Searches for "Kaba E-Plex," "Kaba Eplex 2000," and "E-Plex 2000" all lead to the same current dormakaba product. The lock design, model numbers, and options have carried forward from the Kaba era without redesign.
The E-Plex 2000 is a standalone electronic pushbutton lock. It stores up to 100 access codes and 1,000 audit events in memory. It runs on batteries with no wiring through the door - no pinched wires at the hinge, no wire repairs during service calls. Programming is done directly at the keypad or using optional Microsoft Excel-based software. There is no card reader, no proximity credential, no Bluetooth, and no network connection. This is a pure PIN-access standalone device.
The Three E-Plex 2000 Lock Formats
The 26 products in this catalog divide across three lock body types. Picking the right format is the first decision before selecting cylinder options or finishes.
E201 - Electronic Exit Trim. This is the format that no other electronic lock manufacturer offers in this price class. The E201 mounts as outside trim on a panic exit device, adding PIN-controlled entry to any exit-device-equipped door while keeping the inside touchbar for free egress. The exit device itself is not included - this is trim only. Three compatibility versions exist in this catalog: E201U for universal applications covering most rim, mortise, and SVR exit devices; E201V specifically for Von Duprin 98 and 9975 mortise exit devices; and E201Y for Yale 7100 and Corbin ED5200 rim devices. The mounting hardware and exit device must already be on the door or ordered separately. If you're adding electronic outside access control to a door that already has a panic exit device, the E201 exit trim is the product.
E2031 - Cylindrical Lock. Standard commercial cylindrical lock body with 2-3/4-inch backset and 1/2-inch latch throw. ANSI/BHMA Grade 1. Solid cast exterior housing and levers. Non-handed - pre-assembled for left-hand installation but field-reversible. Covers interior and exterior door applications where a cylindrical lock is the right body for the opening.
E2066 and E2067 - Mortise Locks. The E2066 is a mortise lock without a deadbolt. The E2067 adds a deadbolt to the mortise body. Both use a 1-1/4-inch faceplate. For openings requiring the additional security and durability of a mortise body, specify the 2066 for latch-only function and the 2067 where a deadbolt is part of the hardware schedule.
Cylinder and Key Override Options: BLL, LL, and XSLL
Every E-Plex 2000 product in this catalog carries one of three key override configurations. Understanding these before ordering prevents a mismatch between what's specified and what's on the door.
BLL - 6/7-Pin SFIC Prep, Less Core. The lock body is machined to accept a small format interchangeable core but ships without one. Your existing SFIC core from your master key system drops in. One key program, no separate keying process. This is the right option for facilities already running BEST, Schlage, or other SFIC programs across their hardware.
LL - No Key Override. No cylinder prep, no mechanical key backup of any kind. PIN access only. If the battery dies, the door cannot be opened mechanically. This configuration is appropriate for interior restricted areas where no key access is ever intended and battery management is part of the maintenance protocol.
XSLL - Key In Lever, Schlage C Keyway. A mechanical key cylinder is included in the lever, allowing key override when needed. The Schlage C keyway is the most widely distributed commercial keyway in the United States. This is the right configuration when mechanical backup access is required and the facility uses Schlage C keyway cylinders on other hardware.
E-Plex 2000 vs E-Plex 5000: Choosing the Right Series
The E-Plex 2000 covers facilities with straightforward standalone PIN access needs - up to 100 users, audit trail reviewed periodically, no card credentials required. The E-Plex 5000 Series adds higher user capacity, deeper audit trail storage, and software-based management across multiple locks. The E-Plex 5600 and 5700 series add smart card and dual-credential PIN-plus-card support. If your facility needs card readers, credential management, or more than 100 users per door, the 5000 family is the right direction. For pharmacy back rooms, IT closets, storage areas, and controlled access points where a PIN code and an audit trail are sufficient, the 2000 series handles the application without unnecessary complexity or cost.
