Schlage CO-100-MS-70-KP Mortise Keypad Electronic Lock - Classroom / Storeroom Function

The CO-100-MS-70-KP is the classroom and storeroom function in Schlage's standalone CO-100 mortise keypad lock. The outside lever is always locked. No push button toggles it, no free state exists. The only way to enter from outside is to enter a valid PIN code at the 12-button keypad, which temporarily unlocks the outside lever. After the preset timeout, the lock relocks automatically without any manual step. Inside lever is always free for immediate egress without a credential.

This is exactly how classroom security is supposed to work. A teacher approaching from the corridor enters their PIN, the door unlocks for entry or for students to enter, and the door secures itself again automatically. No mechanical key required for normal access management. For a school running 50 classrooms, 50 individual PINs eliminate the key management burden that comes with traditional mechanical classroom locks, and PINs can be added or deleted at each door independently without a master key ceremony or a locksmith call.

Function 70 vs. Function 50: Which CO-100 to Specify

Both the CO-100-MS-50-KP (office function) and the CO-100-MS-70-KP (classroom/storeroom function) are standalone keypad mortise locks with identical hardware and battery specs. The difference is in how outside access is controlled.

Function 50 (office) gives the inside occupant control over the lock state. Pressing the inside button leaves the door unlocked for open-hours access. A credential from outside unlocks the lever and the door relocks after timeout.

Function 70 (classroom/storeroom) gives credential-only control. The outside lever is always locked. There's no inside button that leaves the door unlocked. Entry always requires a PIN code. This is the correct specification for classrooms, secure offices, laboratories, pharmacies, data closets, and any space where outside access must always require positive credential verification.

How to Program the CO-100-MS-70-KP

Programming happens manually at the door with no software required. The mechanical programming key that ships with the lock enters and exits programming mode. Once in programming mode, user PINs are entered directly at the 12-button keypad. Each user gets their own unique 3 to 6 digit code and can be assigned one of four access attributes. Normal is the standard mode: enter PIN, outside lever unlocks temporarily, relocks after timeout. Toggle flips the lock between locked and unlocked with each code entry. Pass-through holds the door unlocked for the single next entry. Freeze suspends a specific user's access without deleting their code, useful when a user's credential needs to be temporarily suspended without removing it from the lock.

All 500 user codes are stored in non-volatile memory. A battery change does not erase any programmed credentials.
