About this item
The Tell LC2681 CTL is the entry/office function cylindrical lever lock from the Tell LC2600 Series, fitted with the Cortland lever style. It's a standard-duty Grade 2 commercial lockset for medium-traffic doors in offices, retail spaces, warehouse facilities, and multi-tenant buildings. If you're searching for a "tell commercial lockset" or a reliable entry lever in the LC2600 Series, this is the correct product.
Decoding the Model Number
The LC prefix identifies it as a lever cylindrical lockset. The 2681 designates the entry/office function within the LC2600 Series. CTL identifies the Cortland lever, which is a clean commercial lever profile that installs non-handed on either right-hand or left-hand swinging doors without modification.
Entry/Office Function: How It Operates
The LC2681 uses an entry/office function with a turn button on the inside. In normal operation, the outside lever requires a key to retract the latch and open the door. The inside lever always operates freely for egress. When the inside turn button is pressed, the outside lever is disabled and the door operates as a storeroom lock: only a key from outside or turning the inside lever will unlock it. This office lock mode is used when a room needs to be secured from the inside without using a key, such as during a sensitive meeting, exam, or lockdown situation. If you turn the handle from the inside or unlock it with a key from the outside, the button will pop back out on its own, and the door will go back to working like normal.
LC2681 vs LC2682: Entry/Office vs Entry
The Tell LC2600 Series has two entry-type functions. The LC2681 is the Entry/Office variant, which has the inside button that allows temporary storeroom-mode locking. The LC2682 is a straight Entry lock without the office button feature. If you need the inside button for selective lockdown from inside the room, specify the LC2681. If you only need standard key-entry access without the button option, the LC2682 is sufficient.
Cylindrical Chassis: Why It Outlasts Tubular Locksets
The LC2600 Series uses a cylindrical chassis construction rather than a tubular spindle design. In a cylindrical lock, the mechanical chassis absorbs the operational wear from lever use, not the latch bolt. The latch connects to the chassis body rather than passing through continuously on a spindle. This separates wear from the latching function and extends service life significantly. The chassis is steel-coated with zinc dichromate for corrosion resistance. Removable thru-bolts are standard, providing a more secure mechanical connection to the door than surface-mounted fasteners.
