BEST describes the EZ Series with a line that's accurate: it's simple to operate, but it's masquerading as a one-door access control system. That's the right way to think about it. You get PIN-based access, audit capability, administrator and supervisor PINs, user management, passage mode, and emergency lockdown- all in a standalone lock that doesn't need a panel, a controller, or any network connection to operate.
The "9KZ" identifies the cylindrical lever platform. The "37" is the 2-3/4" backset with Grade 1 housing. The "DV" is the function- latch with key override. The keypad trim and SFIC housing complete the configuration.
How the Lock Works: Mechanical and Electronic Operation
Mechanically, the 9KZ37DV operates like a standard cylindrical lock. The latchbolt is deadlocking and spring-loaded- 9/16-inch throw. From inside, the lever always retracts the latch for immediate egress. From outside, the lever is controlled by the internal motor drive. When the door is in its default locked state, the outside lever doesn't retract the latch.
Electronically, entering a valid PIN on the 12-position keypad sends a signal to the motor drive, which releases the outside lever for a set duration. Green light and audible confirmation indicate successful access. Red light and sounder indicate an invalid attempt. When the motor cycle times out, the outside lever locks again automatically.
The key override cylinder provides mechanical backup. If batteries die or the lock needs to be bypassed for maintenance, a physical key in the SFIC cylinder retracts the latch regardless of the electronic state.
How to Lock and Unlock the 9KZ37DV
To unlock it from the outside, just enter your PIN on the keypad. When the green light comes on and you hear the confirmation sound, turn the lever to open the door. The lock re-secures automatically after the motor cycle completes.
To lock from inside without exiting: the passage toggle button on the inside trim allows you to lock the outside lever from the inside. This is the emergency lockdown function- one press secures the door immediately without a key or a code from outside.

The EZ Series manages codes through a tiered administration structure. There is one administrator PIN (the master credential that controls all programming), five supervisor PINs (which can manage user credentials within defined permissions), and user-level PINs. The administrator PIN is used to add or delete user codes, change supervisor credentials, set passage mode privileges, and configure access durations. Programming is done through the keypad itself- no separate programming device or software is required.
If you need to reset the lock and start over, the administrator credential is the reset pathway.
