The Cal-Royal 5000V is a Grade 2 surface vertical rod panic bar exit device built for commercial double doors, pairs of doors without a mullion, and any opening where you need top and bottom latching instead of a single rim latch. The F5000V variant is the fire-rated version of the same device, UL 10C listed for up to 3-hour fire-labeled installations. Push-bar style, non-handed center hub for easy installation, steel chassis and rail assembly, stainless steel latch bolt and spring. ANSI A156.3 Grade 2 certified.

What Is the Cal-Royal 5000V Vertical Rod Exit Device

The 5000V is a surface-mounted vertical rod panic device. Unlike rim exit devices that use a single latch on the push side, a vertical rod device has two rods running up and down the door, with a top latch that engages the frame and a bottom latch that engages the floor strike. That's the configuration you need on pairs of double doors without a mullion, because the inactive leaf needs a way to stay secure top and bottom. Cal-Royal built the 5000 Series as a budget-friendly Grade 2 alternative to premium vertical rod devices like Von Duprin 33A or 98, so it's a common spec for schools, municipal buildings, churches, warehouses, property management, and retail build-outs where a Grade 1 device is overkill.

5000V vs F5000V (Panic vs Fire Rated)

The base model is the 5000V, which is the standard panic device and ships with Allen-key dogging so you can hold the latches retracted during high-traffic periods. The F5000V is the fire-rated version, certified to UL 10C and UBC 7-2-1997 for up to 3-hour fire-labeled installations. Fire code prohibits mechanical dogging on fire doors (the latches must re-engage every time), so the F5000V ships without the Allen-key dogging feature. It also ships with thru-bolts included as standard. If your door is fire-rated (check the label in the top corner of the door), you must order F5000V. If the door is a non-rated panic opening, either works, but the 5000V is the standard choice.

Compatible Trims for 5000V Series Exit Devices

The 5000V ships as exit-only by default. For keyed outside entry, pair it with one of the 8000 Series trims: the 8000K knob trim for a knob-style outside pull, the 8000L lever trim for ADA-compliant lever access, the CLU5000L clutch lever trim for vandal-resistant applications where a forced lever shouldn't damage the device, or the 8000S storeroom function for keyed-entry-only openings. Add the 5000DTP pull trim for openings that just need an outside pull without a latch retraction function.
