What SecureBolt Actually Means

The SecureBolt latchbolt is a two-piece slide-action deadbolt mechanism with positive deadlocking by an auxiliary bolt. The latchbolt has a full 3/4" projection and is 1" wide, made from nickel steel. The two-piece design uses a roll-back lever that eliminates friction between the latchbolt and the strike during re-locking, which extends the life of both the latchbolt and the strike in high-cycle applications. The auxiliary bolt provides positive deadlocking the moment the door closes, without any manual operation required. Vector forces that would push a conventional pullman latch back into the device hit the deadbolt geometry instead, which transfers load into the door and frame rather than allowing latch retraction.

On doors with mullions, this also means increased opening stability. A standard rim device on a mullion-equipped double door opening puts stress on the mullion during forced entry attempts. The SecureBolt design reduces that force transmission, which extends mullion life and reduces maintenance on paired openings.

ED5200S vs. ED5200SA: The Fire Rating Difference

The ED5200S is the standard version. The ED5200SA carries the "A" label three-hour fire rating for use on single doors up to 4' x 8' and double doors up to 8' x 8'. Both versions meet ANSI A156.3 Grade 1 requirements, UL 305 panic hardware listing, California State Fire Marshal approval under section 13144.1, and NFPA 101 Life Safety Code compliance. If your opening is fire-rated, specify ED5200SA. If it's not fire-rated, ED5200S is the correct model. The "A" designation on the fire-rated version indicates the specific label class.
