How the ANSI F04 Entry/Office Function Works

Both levers operate the latch freely in the normal state. The function is controlled by buttons on the face of the lock case, accessible through the faceplate. When staff want to lock out outside access, they push the locking button on the lock face. The outside lever immediately becomes inoperative. No one in the corridor can push it down.

When the outside lever is locked, a key from outside still retracts the latch for entry by authorized personnel. Operating the inside lever also retracts the latch and simultaneously restores the outside lever to normal operation. The unlock button on the lock face returns the door to normal passage without a key.

The lock includes an auxiliary deadlatch that deadlocks the main latch bolt when the door is fully closed. This prevents shimming the latch back with a card or tool when the door is in normal operation.

This is the correct specification for commercial office entrances, professional suite doors, healthcare department entries, multi-tenant office floor entries, and any commercial opening where the people inside need to control who comes in without touching a key for every state change.

MA521 vs MA311 and MA321 - Which MA Function Is Right

The Falcon MA Series covers the full commercial mortise lock function range using the same case, faceplate, and trim throughout. The function code is the only variable.

The MA521 (ANSI F04) is the entry/office function: face buttons on the lock control outside lever access. A key overrides from outside. Inside lever always works. This is the office suite door specification.

The MA311 (ANSI F19) is the privacy function with a full 1-inch deadbolt thrown by the inside lever. For bedroom, bath, and healthcare patient rooms.

The MA321 (ANSI F22) is the T-turn privacy function that auto-releases on door close. For restrooms and exam rooms.

If the opening is a commercial entrance where inside staff locks out the corridor but an outside key can still enter at any time, the MA521 is correct.
