LCN 4004T Track Door Closer - Wall pocket mounting (hinge side) - Size 4

The LCN 4004T installs in a different location entirely: a wall pocket on the hinge side of the door opening. The closer body sits inside the wall adjacent to the door, concealed in a pocket frame. A track arm connects from the closer body in the wall to a rail mounted on the top of the door. As the door swings open, the roller on the arm slides along the door track. As the door swings closed, the closer mechanism drives it to the closed and latched position.

This installation method is used when the space above the door or on the door face isn't suitable for a conventional closer due to architectural constraints, when a cleaner above-door appearance is required, or when the wall pocket hardware schedule calls for the 4004T as the life safety closer on a fire or smoke barrier door. The 4004T is specifically built for fire and smoke barrier doors with a maximum swing of 90 degrees. It is designed for use with the SEM 7850 electromagnetic wall magnet (LCN SEM7800 Series, available separately), which holds the door in the open position until the fire alarm releases it. 90-Degree Maximum: Why Fire Doors Limit Opening Angle

Standard commercial door closers are often spec'd to allow 180-degree opening. Fire and smoke barrier doors are a different specification. The 4004T limits the door to 90 degrees maximum swing. This is intentional on fire corridor doors: a door propped fully open against a wall or held wide open provides no smoke barrier function. At 90 degrees, the door is sufficiently open for corridor traffic while maintaining its smoke compartmentalization geometry. When the fire alarm fires and the SEM 7850 wall magnet de-energizes, the door swings from its held-open position back to closed at the appropriate closer speed.
