Why the LCN 4040XP Is the Industry Standard
LCN closers have been the default commercial door closer specification in North American institutional construction for decades. The 4040XP is the current production version- it replaces and retrofits the LCN 4041 directly using the same mounting hole pattern, which is why it shows up on replacement specs as both "4040xp" and "4041 replacement" in the same breath.
The XP designation means eXtra Protection, and the improvements over the 4041 are structural, not cosmetic. The bearing is 5/8 inches wide- the widest ever in the LCN line- and bearing load capacity is 44% higher than the previous design. The pinion is double heat-treated steel at 3/4-inch journal diameter, the strongest LCN has built into a surface closer. The V-shield seal delivers 20% longer life than the seal it replaced. The body is cast iron. The arm is forged steel. The fluid is Liquid X all-weather formula that maintains consistent closing speed regardless of temperature. What You Get in the Box
This is the Tri-Pak configuration- one package, three mount options. The arm and PA bracket ship together so you're not ordering them separately depending on the door swing direction. The standard plastic cover (redesigned snap-fit with improved retention) is included. Fasteners include self-reaming and tapping screws plus thru bolts and wood and machine screws. Installation template is peel-n-stick at the 2-1/4" x 5" standard LCN mounting hole pattern.
