About this item
The LCN 4040XPT-STD is the standard arm version of the LCN 4040XP heavy duty track closer. The 4040XP is the eXtra Protection platform: cast iron body, forged steel arm, 3/4-inch pinion journal (the strongest LCN has built into a 4040 Series closer), 5/8-inch bearing width (the widest in the series), and V-shield seal with 20 percent longer life than earlier LCN designs. 44 percent higher bearing load capacity over previous 4040 generations. LCNFastPower Adjust for field calibration through the cover without removing it. Non-handed. Adjustable sizes 1 through 4, shipped set to size 3.
The STD designates the standard arm: no hold-open function. The door closes fully on every use. If the application requires the door to stay open at a set angle without staff holding it, the 4040XPT H BUMPER (mechanical bumper hold-open) or an electromagnetic hold-open version is the correct specification instead. The 4040XPT-STD is for applications where controlled closing - not holding open - is the entire function. For all LCN and commercial door closers, browse our door closers catalog. Track Arm vs Regular Arm: What the Visual Difference Is
The "pictorial difference" between a track arm closer and a regular arm closer is in the arm configuration visible on the door.
A regular arm closer (like the 4040XP RW/PA in the related products) has a pivot arm with two solid segments connected at an elbow. One end bolts to the closer body. The other end bolts to a bracket on the doorframe or door. As the door opens, the arm bends at the elbow and pivots at both connection points. On the door, you see the bent arm and both pivot connections.
A track arm closer (this product, 4040XPT-STD) has one arm segment from the closer body connected to a roller that slides along a track rail mounted on the door. As the door opens, the roller travels along the track and the arm segment pivots only at the closer body. On the door, you see one arm going from the closer body to a track rail along the top of the door face, with a visible roller sliding in the track. The track runs parallel to the door surface. That visual - one arm going into a track on the door - is the pictorial difference between the two configurations.
Track arm is specified when the door must swing to 180 degrees (against a wall), when door and frame geometry prevents using a pivot arm, or when the track configuration produces a cleaner arm geometry for the specific installation.
4040XPT-STD vs 4040XPT H BUMPER: Same Body, Different Arm Function
Both the 4040XPT-STD and the 4040XPT H BUMPER use the identical 4040XP closer body. Same XP specs, same tri-mount, same size range 1-4, same Grade 1 certification.
The STD arm closes the door fully after every opening. No hold-open function.
The H BUMPER arm includes a mechanical bumper that contacts a stop point when the door reaches a set open angle, holding the door in that position until someone applies enough force to close it. The bumper mechanism is purely mechanical, no power required.
Choose 4040XPT-STD when the door must close automatically every time. Choose 4040XPT H BUMPER when the door needs to stay open at a set angle during certain periods without a powered hold-open system.
