About this item
The LCN 4211 EDA is built to prevent exactly that. It's part of the LCN 4210 SMOOTHEE Series, a heavy-duty high-security closure designed specifically for correctional facilities, institutional applications, and vandal-prone environments where tampering with door hardware is a regular operational concern. The metal security cover is heavier gauge than standard. The fasteners are TORX machine screws, requiring a specific bit to remove, not a standard tool. The parallel arms are forged steel, not stamped. The cast iron body contains a full complement bearing and a double heat-treated pinion journal. This closure has passed 10 million cycles in independent testing.
The 4211-EDA configuration mounts parallel to the push side of the door with an Extra Duty Arm (EDA), the most mechanically robust arm configuration in the LCN 4210 lineup. How the EDA Parallel Push Side Configuration Works
Parallel arm mounting positions the closer body on the push side of the door with the arm running parallel to the door face and connecting to a shoe on the frame header. The closure is protected behind the door face when the door is in the closed position, reducing exposure to impact and tampering from the public side. The Extra Duty Arm (EDA) is a heavier, more robust arm configuration than the standard parallel arm. It provides a stronger mechanical connection between the closer body and the frame, better suited for doors that experience repeated hard openings from high-traffic and high-abuse users.
For EDA or CUSH arm configurations, a clearance of 5-1/2" (140mm) from the push side of the door is required. Stop width of 2-3/4" (70mm) is recommended. For frames with a top rail less than 5-1/8" (130mm) measured from the stop, PLATE 4210-18 is required (requires 2" minimum top rail).

Security Features Explained
TORX fasteners are the first security layer. Unlike Phillips or hex screws, TORX requires a specific star-pattern bit not found in standard toolkits. Without the correct TORX driver, the security cover cannot be removed and the closure cannot be accessed. The metal security cover itself is the second layer: heavier and more rigid than the standard LCN plastic cover, it resists prying, bending, and impact damage. The cast iron body with full complement bearing is the third layer: cast iron has significantly higher compressive strength than aluminum die-cast bodies, and a full complement bearing (all bearing positions filled with balls) provides maximum load capacity and longer service life under abuse conditions.
15-Year Warranty
‘
The LCN 4211 carries a 15-year limited warranty, one of the longest warranty periods in the commercial door closure market. The standard LCN 4040XP carries a 3-year warranty. The extended warranty reflects the higher-grade construction and LCN's confidence in the 4210 Series for heavy-use applications.
