The L463 operates on ANSI Function E06091. A key from the exterior throws and retracts the deadbolt. The interior thumbturn retracts the deadbolt but cannot project it. That one-way thumbturn behavior is the defining feature of the classroom function: faculty can lock the door from the corridor during a security event without entering the room, and occupants inside can always exit freely by turning the thumbturn, but no one inside can lock themselves in without a key.
