About this item
The Accentra 351 is a double cylinder mortise deadbolt from the Yale 350 series. If you've been searching "yale mortise deadbolt", "yale double cylinder deadbolt", or "accentra deadbolt"- this is the product. ASSA ABLOY transitioned the Yale Commercial brand to Accentra, but the product number, specifications, design, and manufacturing are unchanged. The 351 is still the same heavy-duty double cylinder mortise deadlock that's been specified for commercial and institutional applications for decades. Orders from American Locksets may ship in Yale or Accentra packaging depending on available inventory.
What Double Cylinder Means at the Door
The 351 is function 351- cylinder both sides. A key is required to operate the deadbolt from both the outside and the inside. There's no thumbturn on the inside. You need a key to lock and unlock from both faces of the door.
This is specified deliberately for certain security scenarios: glass-panel doors or sidelite doors where someone could break the glass to reach a thumbturn, utility access points and storage rooms where internal access also needs to be controlled, and high-security corridors where tailgating or unauthorized exit from inside is a concern. It's also used in situations where code requires the deadbolt to be operable by key from the secure side for specific occupancy types.
Note that building and fire codes may restrict or prohibit double cylinder deadbolts on certain egress doors depending on occupancy type and jurisdiction. Confirm code compliance with your AHJ before specifying 351 on primary egress.
350 Series Function Variants
The 351 is one of six functions in the 350 series. If your project needs a different configuration: 352 is cylinder outside by thumbturn inside. 353 is single cylinder only, outside. 354 is exit function- thumbturn inside only, no outside cylinder. 356 is double cylinder with thumbturn inside. 357 is single cylinder outside by classroom thumbturn inside. All 350 series deadbolts use the same case, deadbolt, and front plate- only the trim configuration changes.
Construction and Security Hardware
The deadbolt is laminated stacked steel with a hardened anti-saw pin and a 1-inch throw. Stacked steel laminate is harder to saw through than a single solid steel deadbolt because the layers interrupt the cutting path. The hardened pin further resists sawing and drilling. The case itself is heavy wrought steel, zinc plated and dichromated for corrosion resistance.
The front plate is 4-5/8 inch by 1-1/8 inch and is adjustable to accommodate both flat and beveled door edges- the bevel adjustment handles doors beveled up to 1/8 inch in 2 inches without requiring a special template. The standard strike is 3-1/2 inch by 1-1/8 inch (model 30S). A larger ANSI strike of 4-7/8 inch by 1-1/4 inch (model 545N) is available as an option.
Fire Rating and Installation Context
The 350 series deadbolts are used as auxiliary secondary locking devices- they don't replace a primary lockset. When installed on a door with a primary latching lock, the 351 is UL/cUL listed for use on fire doors rated up to 3 hours. It's also cUL listed for use on wood fire doors rated up to 90 minutes. The lock conforms to ANSI/BHMA A156.115 (steel doors and frames) and A156.115-W (wood doors with wood or steel frames).
