NM8010 Function: Passage, ANSI F01

The NM8010 is the passage function in the NM Series. ANSI Function F01 means the latch bolt is operated by lever from either side at all times, with no cylinder. The inside lever is always free for immediate egress. There's no key, no turn button, and no locking mechanism. It's specified for corridors, interior hallways, vestibules, and any opening where free passage is required in both directions without restricted entry. If your project requires an entrance, storeroom, or classroom function, those are separate NM Series SKUs: NM8050 for office/entrance (F04), NM8070 for classroom (F05), and NM8080 for storeroom (F07).

The front plate is heavy gauge steel measuring 8" x 1-1/4" x 3/32", accommodating both flat doors and doors beveled 1/8" in 2". Over the steel front sits an armored wrought brass face, attached by machine screws to the lock case. This layered construction is what separates the NM Series from budget mortise alternatives that use thinner gauge steel throughout. The strike is a non-handed curved brass piece measuring 4-7/8" x 1-1/4", with a curved-up strike available on request. The "F" mark is stamped on the strike, confirming UL fire listing compliance for the complete assembly.

Hurricane Approval: What It Means and Why It Matters

Most distributors don't mention it, but the Cal-Royal NM Series carries Florida Building Code approval (FL13922-R8) and Texas Department of Insurance Evaluation ID DR-472. Both programs require independent testing of door hardware under wind and impact loading beyond standard ANSI requirements. For projects in Florida, Texas, and other hurricane-exposure regions, specifying non-approved hardware can create compliance issues during final inspection. The NM8010 clears both programs, which simplifies specification in coastal and high-wind markets.
