Electrified Mortise Locks
Electrified mortise locks from Schlage L9000 Series electrified, Corbin Russwin ML2000 electrified, Sargent 7300E, and dormakaba M1000 electrified. 12/24VDC, REX switch.
Electrified Mortise Locks for Primary Building Entries
Primary building entries on institutional projects need two things simultaneously: panic-free egress from inside and credential-controlled entry from outside. An electrified mortise lock provides both. The mechanical mortise body handles egress freely from inside. The electrified function controls the outside latch release via the access control panel. When someone presents credentials, the panel signals the lock to release the latch and the outside lever operates. The integrated REX switch in the inside lever trim signals the panel when someone approaches to exit, preventing false door-forced alarms. That's the complete access control function in one lock body, without an additional electric strike.
An electrified mortise lock combines the physical durability of a commercial Grade 1 mortise lockset with the remote access control capability of an integrated solenoid, motor, or electromechanical actuator. The lock body installs in the door edge the same way any mortise lock does, using a standard door prep. The electrical component sits inside the same housing and controls whether the outside lever is operable, providing access control at the opening without a separate reader-mounted electric strike or a separate powered latch device. American Locksets is an authorized dealer for Schlage, Sargent, Corbin Russwin, BEST, Falcon, Accentra Yale, and PDQ electrified mortise locks, with same-day shipping and free shipping on all orders over $300.
Electrified Mortise Locks: Fail Safe vs. Fail Secure, and Why the Distinction Matters
Every electric mortise lockset on this page operates in one of two modes, and the specifier must confirm the correct mode before ordering. In fail safe operation, applying power unlocks the outside lever. The lever is locked when power is absent. This configuration integrates naturally with fire alarm panels: when the alarm trips and the panel cuts power to the lock, the door releases and allows egress. Fail safe is the correct specification for stairwell doors, fire-rated corridor doors, lobby entries integrated with fire alarm control, and any ADA-required egress path.
In fail secure operation, the outside lever is locked when power is applied. Removing power releases the lever. This is the inverse logic and is correct for server rooms, pharmaceutical storage, cash rooms, and security zones where a power outage or alarm event should not create an unlocked opening. Ordering the wrong mode on a mortise electric lockset is a specification error that cannot be corrected in the field. Both modes are stocked at American Locksets across all major brands.
Sargent Electromechanical Mortise Locks: 8200 Series
