LCN 4111-EDA Door Closer - Mounting Parallel Arm (Push Side) - w/ Extra Duty Arm (EDA)

The LCN 4111-EDA is the Extra Duty Arm configuration of the LCN 4110 Smoothee, mounted in the parallel arm position on the push side of the door. Three things define this product: the Smoothee body, the EDA arm, and the push side parallel arm mounting.

The 4110 Smoothee body is cast iron with a double heat-treated steel pinion, forged steel arm components, all-weather fluid, and LCNFastPower Adjust for field calibration through the cover without removing either the cover or the closer. The non-sized cylinder covers interior doors to 4 feet 6 inches wide and exterior doors to 3 feet 6 inches wide from a single adjustable cylinder.

The EDA arm (4110-3077EDA) is the Extra Duty configuration: both the main arm and the forearm are forged solid steel. The standard parallel arm uses lighter construction for normal commercial duty. The EDA arm uses forged solid steel throughout both segments for installations where the arm takes physical abuse. High-impact corridor doors, institutional entrance doors, school hallways, and any opening where doors are regularly kicked, pushed forcefully, or subjected to rough use are the correct applications for the EDA arm. Parallel Arm Push Side: What It Means and When to Specify

The 4111 mounts on the push side of the door. When you stand on the push side, you push the door away from you to enter. The hinges are on the opposite side (the pull side). The closer body mounts to the face of the door on the push side, and the parallel arm shoe bracket mounts to the door frame head directly above. The arm runs parallel to the door face - hence "parallel arm."

This is distinct from the 4011 (regular arm, pull side), where the closer mounts on the same side as the hinges and the arm pivots at an angle rather than running parallel to the door face. On a single door with a standard door closer, either side can be used depending on the door swing and architectural requirements. The parallel arm push side configuration (4111) is often preferred when the pull side has architectural constraints or when the hardware schedule specifies push side mounting for aesthetic or clearance reasons.

Delayed Action (DEL) Option

The 4111-EDA is available in two configurations at checkout: Standard Model and DEL (Delayed Action). The Standard Model closes the door at normal speed from full open to latched. DEL adds a pause at maximum opening before the closing sweep begins, giving occupants additional time to pass through before the door starts closing. This is specified on ADA accessible doors, healthcare entries, and high-traffic doorways where people need extra time. The DEL and handing (RH or LH) must both be specified at time of order.

EDA vs Standard Parallel Arm: Which to Specify

The standard parallel arm configuration (LCN 4111 without EDA suffix) uses a standard forged steel arm for conventional commercial applications. The 4111-EDA uses heavier-duty forged solid steel construction throughout both arm segments. If the door sees consistent high-impact use - students in a school corridor, patients in a behavioral health unit, high-frequency institutional traffic - the EDA arm holds up longer and requires less maintenance than a standard arm under those conditions. If the opening is a standard low-to-medium traffic interior door, the standard parallel arm is sufficient and more cost-effective.
