About this item
The Schlage ND75PD RHO is a Grade 1 classroom security lock from Schlage's ND series with a Rhodes lever and Schlage FSIC (Full Size Interchangeable Core) prep, sold less core. If you've been searching "schlage nd75" or "lock in rho" looking for a classroom lock with the Rhodes lever design this is it. RHO is the Schlage abbreviation for the Rhodes lever style, and the ND75 is the classroom security function in the ND series cylindrical lock platform.
What the ND75 Classroom Security Function Does
The ND75 is the standard classroom security function. Key in either lever inside or outside locks or unlocks the outside lever. The inside lever is always free regardless of lock state. Someone inside can push the lever and exit at any time. From outside, when the lock is engaged, the lever won't operate without a key. When unlocked, the outside lever retracts the latch normally.
The two-key-location setup is specifically designed for classroom use: a teacher can lock the door from inside the room (using the inside lever cylinder) without stepping into the corridor during a security situation. An administrator with a master key can also lock or unlock from outside. That dual-access lockdown capability without requiring anyone to go outside into a hallway is why the ND75 is the most commonly specified classroom lock in school construction.
ND75PD: What the PD Cylinder Prep Means
The PD suffix on this lock means it ships prepped for Schlage Full Size Interchangeable Core (FSIC), sold less core. There's no cylinder installed from the factory. Your facility's own FSIC cores already keyed to your master key program drop in after installation. A control key removes the construction or temporary core, the permanent core inserts, and the lock is immediately active on your existing key system.
This is the standard ordering approach for institutional facilities schools, universities, hospitals that run a campus-wide FSIC key system and need every lock to use the same cores without re-pinning. The PD prep accepts Schlage's full size interchangeable core format specifically. If your facility uses Schlage SFIC (small format) or conventional cylinders, you'd need a different suffix variant.
The Rhodes Lever: ADA Compliance and Break-Away Feature
The Rhodes lever meets ADA requirements. It returns to within 1/2 inch of the door face, which puts it in the ADA-compliant category for lever return clearance. It's one of the most specified levers on the ND series for accessible routes because of that compliance alongside its clean contemporary appearance.
Schlage also offers an optional break-away feature for Rhodes levers on most locking functions. When extreme torque is applied to the lever the kind of force someone uses trying to force a locked door the handheld part of the lever breaks away from the shank. The lever separates cleanly, protecting the spring cage and locking mechanism behind it. The door stays locked. That anti-forced-entry feature is why the Rhodes appears on high-security institutional doors as often as it does.
ND Series Strength Standards
The ND75PD exceeds ANSI/BHMA A156.2 Grade 1 requirements significantly. Schlage tests the ND series to 3,100 inch-pounds of abusive lever torque more than two and a half times the Grade 1 standard. Offset lever pull testing goes to 1,600 pounds. After 16 million operating cycles in testing, the lock shows essentially no droop or wobble. It's specified in schools, hospitals, government buildings, and anywhere a lock is expected to take serious daily abuse and keep working.
