Schlage ND53 Entrance Function: How It Works

The ND53 is ANSI Function F109, the entrance/office function. It operates with two locking modes from a single push button:

Turn and push button locking: Pushing and turning the inside button simultaneously locks the outside lever. The outside lever then requires a key to unlock until the button is manually released from inside. This is the maintained locking mode used when securing the door with the occupant inside.

Push button locking: Pushing the inside button without turning it locks the outside lever until the key is used from the outside or the inside lever is rotated, which releases the button. This provides temporary exterior locking that automatically resets when the door is operated from inside.

In both modes, the inside lever is always free for immediate egress. The outside lever deadlocks the latchbolt when locked, preventing shimming or forcing from the exterior.

What EE212 Means: Extended Equally for 2-1/2 Inch Doors

Standard ND Series locks fit doors 1-5/8 inch to 2-1/8 inch thick. For doors thicker than 2-1/8 inch, Schlage offers extended spindle and trim configurations. The EE designation means extended equally, which adds equal amounts to both the outside and inside trim to center the lock within the door thickness.
