About this item
The Schlage ND10S EE212 is the passage latch configuration of Schlage's ND Series heavy duty cylindrical lock, built and pre-configured for doors 2-1/4 to 2-1/2 inches thick extended equally on both inside and outside ANSI F75 passage function, Grade 1, both levers always free, UL10C listed for 3-hour fire doors, tested well beyond the ANSI 1 million-cycle Grade 1 requirement. American Locksets stock the ND10S EE212.
What "EE212" Means and Why It Matters
The "ND10S" is Schlage's part designation for the ND Series passage latch, both levers always free, spring latch, no key, ANSI Function F75. Standard ND Series ships for 1-3/4-inch doors. When your door exceeds that standard thickness, the lock needs longer spindles, longer mounting hardware, and extended roses on one or both sides to bridge the additional depth. That's what the "EE212" suffix provides.
"EE" stands for Extended Equally both the inside and outside roses are extended the same amount. "212" is the nominal door thickness code for 2-1/2 inches. This configuration covers the door thickness range from 2-1/4 inches up to 2-1/2 inches.
Here's how Schlage's ND thick door system works: door thicknesses are ordered in 1/8-inch increments. If your door measures 2-3/16 inches, round up to 2-1/4 and specify the EE214 (which covers 2-1/4"). If your door is exactly 2-1/4 to 2-1/2 inches, the EE212 is the correct configuration. If you're between increments, always round up. Ordering the wrong thickness code means the roses won't sit flush against the door face and the spindle connection will be misaligned.
EE vs EO vs EI: Choosing the Right Extension Type
Extended Equally (EE) extends both inside and outside roses by the same amount, the correct choice when a thick door is consistent throughout its cross-section, which is the case for most solid-core or heavy solid timber doors.
Extended Outside (EO) extends only the outside rose used when the exterior of the door has additional cladding, weatherstripping buildup, or frame projection that adds thickness on one side only.
Extended Inside (EI) extends only the inside rose, less common but applicable when interior cladding or panel additions create thickness on one side.
For most commercial thick door applications on solid wood, engineered wood, or steel construction, EE is the correct specification. If you're unsure, measure both sides of the door from the face to the latch centerline if the distances are equal, specify EE.
ND10S Passage Function: What It Does
The passage function is the simplest in the ND Series: both levers are always free to retract the latch from either side. There's no push button, no key, no locking mechanism of any kind. This is the correct specification for interior commercial corridors, conference rooms, connecting offices, and any opening where free bidirectional traffic is the design requirement and access control is not needed. The latch bolt is 1/2-inch throw, spring-loaded, and self-latching on door closure.
Despite being the non-keyed, non-locking function, the ND10S still carries the full AND Series Grade 1 certification 3 times the ANSI 1 million-cycle minimum, near-zero lever droop after extended high-cycle testing, and UL10C 3-hour fire door listing. Grade 1 on a passage set matters on high-traffic commercial doors were inferior hardware shows lever sag and rose loosening within a few years under volume use.
ND10S EE212 vs EE214
The EE212 covers 2-1/4 to 2-1/2-inch door thickness range. The EE214 covers the next increment up. If your door measures right at 2-1/2 inches, the EE212 is the correct order. If your door measures 2-9/16 inches or anything above 2-1/2 inches, you need the EE214. Ordering the wrong suffix creates a fitment problem that can't be corrected in the field the lock has to be returned and re-ordered.
