The Schlage ND Series is the institutional standard for Grade 1 cylindrical locks in North America, and the ND80BDEU is its electrified storeroom configuration. Outside lever is continuously locked. Entry by key or access control signal only. Inside lever is always free for immediate egress. How the ND80BDEU Fail Secure Function Works

EU in the model number stands for Electrically Unlocked, which is the fail secure configuration. The outside lever is continuously locked in the mechanical default state. When the access control panel sends a signal and current is applied, the outside lever unlocks and retracts the latch. When the signal is removed or power fails, the outside lever locks again immediately. No manual reset, no intervention required. The door defaults to locked any time electrical supply is interrupted.

Inside lever operation is always free regardless of electrical state. Egress is never restricted by the electric function. This satisfies fire code egress requirements on fail secure electrified doors: staff and occupants can always exit, but entry from outside requires either a key or an active access control signal.

An optional Request-to-Exit (RX) switch is available on this lock. The RX option adds internal monitoring of inside lever rotation, providing a signal to the access control panel when the inside lever is operated, which can shunt alarm systems or release door holders connected to the same circuit.
